Autodesk works with ECF and Voodoo to distribute 3D printed prostheses on a large scale

Information about the Enable Community Foundation (ECF) and its e-NABLE maker volunteer community has been very popular, as they have consistently used cheap 3D printing technology to help disabled people in need. At the same time, they are also generous global maker communities, and every story they provide for people with disabilities is warming. Recently, through collaboration with Autodesk and Voodoo Manufacturing, a 3D printing center in New York, ECF has successfully completed 3D printing and assembly of prosthetic limbs for 750 children.

According to data provided by the Association of Amputees, nearly 2 million people in the United States were amputated. This number is still increasing year by year, and the number of people who have been amputated every year is about 185,000 more than the previous year. The costly manufacturing costs of traditional prostheses mean that many amputees do not have access to treatment or ancillary equipment for a long time, but they need a normal life. This is the starting point for ECF to make 3D printed prostheses. In order to make 3D printed prostheses and auxiliary devices closer to the children's body structure and usage habits, ECF brings together the makers of volunteers on the network to help design, test and 3D print these hand prostheses.

ECF's initiative was helped by Voodoo Manufacturing, which printed over 750 individual parts of more than 22,000 individual parts through their 3D printing facility in Brooklyn. These parts will be shipped to Autodesk's 28 office buildings around the world. For children with upper limbs or amputations around the world, Autodesk employees actively use their time and experience to help assemble the 750 fake hands.

It is understood that this inspiring initiative is also part of Autodesk's Global Month of Impact project, where employees from the Autodesk offices around the world help to achieve healthcare and the environment. Volunteer projects in areas such as children and education. For this 3D printing fake hand project of ECF, Autodesk employees spent a total of 6,000 hours assembling these fake hands, each spending about 10 hours.

Prior to this, Voodoo had worked with e-NABLE and created 150 3D printed fake hands, donated to e-NABLE, which is the highest value donation received by e-NABLE. Autodesk is known for its 3D design and CAD software, and has also partnered with ECF and e-NABLE for a long-term collaboration and launched its own 3D printed prosthetic project.

If you want to participate in the production of 3D printing aids, take a look at the recent design challenge on e-NABLE - "Within Reach" with Pinshape, which will last until September.
