Patagonia, the top outdoor sports brand in the United States, announced that it has expanded its “Worn Wear Apparel Recycling Program and added an online platform for resale. For a long time, Patagonia has adopted a policy to encourage the reuse of goods, which is consistent with the brand’s environmental claims.
Patagonia will recycle the brand's old clothes from consumers and make them available for sale on the site.
Consumers contribute old, but still usable Patagonia merchandise, will receive store points.
Rick Ridgeway, Patagonia's vice president of environmental affairs, explained: “If we can create truly durable products and work with customers to provide them with remedial services, we can provide a solution to the environmental crisis.†It may impact new product sales, but it has a very positive significance for shaping the brand image.
This is not the first time Patagonia has taken action to reduce the frequency of purchases by consumers. Last year, Patagonia held a tour in Europe to teach people the skills of sewing clothes, with the intention of changing people's habit of being old and new.
At the same time, through the recycling program, Patagonia can also better understand consumers' shopping preferences, conduct targeted production, and reduce the impact on the environment.
Patagonia's products are known for their durability, and many products can still participate in recycling programs after 10 to 15 years of use.
The new Worn Wear plan will be implemented starting in February this year. It will first target the university campuses in various regions and will be fully implemented in April.
