One-off barrier PET bottles come out in the United States

Graham Packaging of Pennsylvania, USA, has recently begun supplying the market with disposable barrier PET bottles for packaging juices and other oxygen-sensitive beverages.
The raw material for this bottle is a modified PET blend containing BP's oxygen absorber. According to the person in charge of the company's Food & Beverage Business Unit, the use of this new technology makes it possible to use single-layer barrier bottles to package oxygen-sensitive beverages. Groham Packaging Co., Ltd. developed in partnership with Georgia's BP company and spent more than two years improving the formula for oxygen absorbers for single-layer PET bottles. Unlike the surface coating and co-extruded multi-layer technology, the oxygen absorbent for the single-layer PET bottle is added before the bottle is molded and blended with the PET resin. The barrier property of this bottle can be adjusted according to customer requirements. By changing the amount of oxygen absorbing agent to adapt to various beverages, if it still does not meet the requirements, the coating process is also reliable to further improve the barrier properties. Therefore, this kind of modified PET resin technology containing oxygen absorbent can also be regarded as the development and extension of the surface coating process.
This new one-time barrier PET bottle offers users a simple, cost-effective product, which is what many mass mainstream beverage manufacturers want. The bottles can be recycled like other PET bottles and reused in food-grade packaging applications. Apple & Exo, the largest independent fruit juice plant in the United States, New York, has purchased this bottle to pack juice products.
