Tetra Pak Aptiva aseptic packaging combines the taste and nutritional value of a sterile carton pack with the attractiveness of a plastic bottle. Tetra Pak, the world's leading supplier of food and beverage processing and packaging systems, recently announced the release of Tetra Pak Aptiva aseptic packaging, the world's first sterile paper bottle.
Tetra Pak Aptiva aseptic packaging combines a paper bottle body with a plastic top and a screw cap. It is a very unique and innovative room temperature package. Tetra Pak Aptiva sterile bottle is designed to replace plastic bottle. Compared with the packaging line of Aseptic Plastic Bottle (APET) and Aseptic High-Density Polyethylene Plastic Bottle (AHDPE), it can save 20~ to beverage manufacturers. With 50% of operating expenses, the total investment can be saved by half with the same production capacity.

The package has a distinctive semi-cylindrical body, with a wide, easy-to-drink opening at the top of the plastic and a screw cap that can be re-opened.
Pascual, a major manufacturer of milk, beverages and foods in Spain, has selected Tetra Pak as a packaging for its Scapy products. Scapy was first released in November 2005 and is a new brand for the children's beverage market. This juice and milk mix is rich in vitamins and its target consumers are children aged 8 to 14 years.

Benston said: “The Tetra Aptiva sterile paper bottle offers a low-investment solution for new and old customers. For customers who are using ambient temperature paper packaging, they can naturally overgrow to Tetra Aptiva sterile paper bottles. And will enjoy the many benefits of Tetra System products. For new customers, the paper bottles provide an attractive and distinctive platform for them to launch new brands and extend their product lines."
Tetra Pak Aptiva sterile paper bottles are produced on the newly designed Tetra Pak A5 filling machine, which can be manufactured in both personal and family sizes. Both models can be used to package juice drinks, non-carbonated drinks and liquid dairy products. Individual pack models can produce 12,000 packs per hour, while family pack models can produce 10,000 packs per hour.
The Tetra Pak A5 uses an innovative filling and forming system that uses familiar rolls of paper-based packaging materials and prefabricated plastic top components. The first step in the bottle forming and filling process is to seal the paper around the axis of the paper-based packaging material so as to form a very precise bottle body and then fuse it with the prefabricated top crown. Also in this system, the plastic double crowns were placed in two halves and placed on the mandrel wheel respectively, while the paper bottle body was placed on top crown and mandrel wheels. The induction sealing process firmly fuses the two parts together.
The disinfection process is carried out by Tetra Pak's unique hydrogen peroxide-based process. After filling, a stream of nitrogen is sprayed inside the package. Its purpose is to minimize the amount of oxygen inside the package before final packaging. Finally, the finalization process is to fold the unique shape and bottom of the Tetra Aptiva sterile paper bottle when the packaging is completed.
Tetra Aptiva sterile paper bottles have excellent carton barrier properties, ensuring that the oxygen-sensitive products such as fruit juices have a long shelf life (minimum 6 months). The transparent polypropylene crown allows consumers to see what's inside. It contains a layer of oxygen barrier. The paper bottles used to hold liquid dairy products use translucent polyethylene crowns to block the entrance of light.
During the initial product promotion period, only some customers in Europe can obtain Tetra Pak sterile bottle. For fruit juice beverages and non-carbonated beverage products, 2006 will be launched in two sizes of 330ml and 500ml with a transparent polypropylene top crown; for liquid dairy products, a translucent polyethylene top crown will be launched in 2007. The Tetra Pak Aptiva sterile paper bottle with a size of 1000 ml. Since 2008, the product will be launched in different parts of the world.
